Things Your Cat Probably Hates

March 1, 2015

Is your kitty a bit temperamental at times? Even if Fluffy is normally a sweet and friendly kitty, there are some things that may turn her into a little furry ball of anxiety or send her running to her favorite hiding spot. While cats are nothing if not unique, our feline friends do all share similar likes and dislikes. In this article by your San Antonio vet, you’ll read about some of Fluffy’s pet peeves.

Water

There’s solid logic behind Kitty’s fear of water. When Kitty lived in the wild, water could hide dangerous predators, such as alligators. She also had to be cautious of running water, because strong currents can be deadly for a kitty. Last but not least, her fur emits a strong scent when wet, which could attract unwanted attention from other animals.

Car Rides

Going for a ride in the car might be Fido’s favorite thing ever, but Fluffy couldn’t disagree more. While there are some felines that tolerate or even enjoy going for rides, they are definitely in the minority. Many cats spend the duration of their car rides crying, while others may shed huge amounts of fur because of fear.

Loud Noises

Fluffy tends to like things calm and quiet. This makes perfect sense, since her favorite activity is napping! Vacuums, loud music, food processors, or the sound of a powertool can really rub your cat the wrong way. Loud noises are another thing many of our feline friends despise.

Dirty Litter Boxes

This one is unanimous among our feline friends. Cats are actually very clean, and prefer their bathrooms kept in good order. Scoop Fluffy’s litter box out each day, and follow up with thorough cleaning about once a week.

Improper Attention

Kitty can be very specific opinions and rules when it comes to being petted. Too much cuddling, and you’ll find yourself with a grumpy cat. Too little, and your feline friend may meow, rub against your legs, or jump into your lap to get your attention. Follow your kitty’s lead, and let the furball decide when it’s time to snuggle.
