Critical Care

Do you have a plan in place should your companion need urgent medical attention?

Like it or not, accidents and unexpected illnesses are a part of life for our human and our animal family members. Planning ahead by knowing who to call in case of a pet emergency can vastly improve the chances of a favorable outcome.

North Star Animal Hospital is equipped to handle all of your pet’s critical care needs, whether medical, diagnostic or surgical in nature. Our highly skilled team is experienced in delivering emergency medical attention, swiftly and with great compassion.

Some of the signs that your pet could need emergency veterinary care include:

  • Choking
  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing
  • Bleeding
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Trauma, such as a fall or being struck by a vehicle
  • Vomiting or diarrhea that persists longer than 24 hours
  • Lameness
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Disorientation
  • Seizures/convulsions
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Loss of consciousness

If any of these occurs with your pet, time is of the essence. We always recommend calling us first so that we can assess the situation and provide any necessary instructions. We can also better prepare the hospital for your pet’s arrival so the appropriate care can be immediately administered. Of course, if you don’t have the time or ability to phone ahead, you should come directly to the clinic.

When a loved one is in need of urgent care, having the right team in your corner is important. We want you to be confident that should you experience a pet emergency, we’ll be there for you in your time of need.
