And Meow, A Word About Fluffy’s Cat Tower

March 1, 2022

Does your kitty have a cat tower? If so, that’s great! If not, you may want to consider getting her one. Cats don’t mind ‘borrowing’ our things, but they really do benefit from having some pieces made just for them. A San Antonio, TX vet discusses Fluffy’s favorite piece of furniture in this article.

Benefits

Cat towers serve several purrposes for kitties. They offer your feline overlord a good vantage point of her kingdom. Cats don’t get a very good view from ground level! They make good nail care stations, which will let your furry little diva sharpen her claws without using your couch. If you have another cat or a dog, Fluffy may also appreciate having a spot she can go to get away from her roommate. Last but not least, they also offer your furball yet another napping spot.

Choosing A Tower

Picking a tower isn’t rocket science, but there are some things to consider. How many cats you have is a big one. It’s important to pick a piece that will fit all your furballs at once. If you have a kitten, get something with toys and ladders for little Fluffy to play with. If your feline buddy is a senior, she’ll be more interested in comfy napping spots.

Refreshing A Tower

Has your feline friend started ignoring her tower? This actually isn’t uncommon. Sometimes Fluffy just sort of forgets about things she sees or uses daily. (Food bowls and litterboxes are of course the exception here.) Try moving the tower to a new spot, or even just turning it. You may also want to clean it. Vacuuming is a good start, but steam cleaning is a better option, especially if it’s quite old or if your cat recently had fleas. Another option is to recover it. Look for cheap carpet or scraps at discount outlets.

DIY Options

If a fancy tower isn’t in your budget this year, don’t worry. There are plenty of options for DIY towers! You can easily make one out of an old stepladder. Just add smooth boards to the steps to widen them out into kitty flopping spots. Then, use carpet or sisal rope as a covering. Voila!
