Holidays With Bunnies

December 1, 2020

Happy Holidays! Or, for those of you with rabbits, perhaps we should say Hoppy Holidays. Floppy is a very adorable little pet! She can also be very frisky, so you may need to take a few steps to keep her safe over the next few weeks. A local Castle Hills, TX vet discusses holiday rabbit care in this article.

Gifts

Don’t forget to pick up a few things for your furry little friend! Floppy may appreciate a comfy bed, or perhaps some grooming supplies. Toys are always a good bet. Bunnies love chew toys, so offer your pet safe things to nibble on. Many wood, cardboard, and wicker items are fine. Just don’t give your rabbit anything made from pine or cedar, or anything covered with paint, stain, dye, or varnish. Anything with small or sharp parts is also unsafe.

Decorations

Keep your adorable ball of fur in mind as you decorate. The tree can be very dangerous to your little furball. Consider using a puppy gate to block Floppy’s access. If you get seasonal plants, like holly, ivy, or mistletoe, you’ll want to keep these in high spots that your adorable pet can’t reach. Also, make sure Floppy can’t access any cords or wires.

Travel

Are you going out of town? If so, you’ll need to decide whether to bring Floppy to a kennel, hire a bunnysitter, or take her with you. In most cases, we strongly recommend boarding. Your furry pal needs daily food, water, playtime, and care. It’s best to go to a professional. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Treats

Real branches are fine for bunnies, as long as you opt for safe trees, such as apple. Your bun may also enjoy a clean pinecone. As you may know, Floppy has a bit of a sugar tooth. Your furball can also enjoy small amounts of safe fruits, like strawberries or apple slices. Ask your vet for more information.

Stress

Bunnies are quite timid, and can get frightened by a lot of noise or commotion. If you’re having people over, put Floppy in a quiet back room with bedding, food, toys, and treats. Visit her occasionally, so she doesn’t get lonely.
