Things to Do for National Dog Day

August 15, 2020

There’s a pretty important holiday coming up. August 26th is National Dog Day! Our friendship with Fido is definitely something to celebrate. Dogs are loving, loyal companions, who stick by us no matter what life (or 2020) throws at us. Here, a San Antonio, TX vet suggests some great ways to get Fido’s tail going on his special day.

Play Session

Our furry pals are very playful. Watching Fido bounding about is not only highly entertaining, it’s also bound to put a smile on your face. Get your pet a new toy, and then indulge him with an extra-long play session.

Adventure

Does your pooch love exploring new places? Chances are, the answer to that one is yes. Dogs pick up a lot about their surroundings through scents, so sniffing new grass provides Fido with mental stimulation and enrichment. Plus, many dogs just love a change of scenery. Take your pup to a park, beach, or trail. Just be sure to follow proper social distancing regulations.

Cold Snack

Summer will be over before you know it. Treat your canine friend to a frozen snack! Plain frozen yogurt is fine, as long as it doesn’t contain anything unsafe, like chocolate or xylitol. You can also make Fido’s treats. Here’s an easy one: to make pupsicles, put kibble, shredded meat, or broken dog treats in an ice cube tray. Pour sodium-free broth over it, and freeze. Done!

Bath

While Fido probably would opt out of this one, he will feel better if he is soft and clean. Give your pooch a bath. Then, once he’s dried off, snap some pictures of him while he’s nice and clean.

New Digs

Want to go a bit further? Get your furry buddy a doghouse! If he already has one, give it a pupgrade. Add a fresh coat of paint, a cute sign, or a sandbox.

Bed

Could your canine buddy use a new bed? Head to the pet store! You can also make one. Look online for instructions and ideas.

Love

One thing we celebrate and appreciate about dogs is the fact that they’re so loving and affectionate. Fido really wants nothing more than to hang out with you. Spend some quality time with your furry bff!
