Celebrating Love Your Pet Day

Love Your Pet Day is coming up February 20th! While we firmly think that pets deserve to be loved every day, this is a wonderful time to show your furry pal some extra TLC. Read on for some great tips from a San Antonio, TX vet on how to brighten your pet’s day up a bit.

Dogs

If there’s one sure way to get Fido’s tail going, it’s the thought of a yummy treat. Store-bought goodies are fine. A bit of bacon or sausage is ok for this special occasion, though in general you’ll want to limit your pup’s intake of these fatty treats. A new toy is also a great gift. Your canine buddy may appreciate a new bed, or perhaps a fun excursion to a dog-friendly café. Keep your pup’s age in mind when deciding what to do or get for him. A senior dog may like a comfy throw blanket, while a puppy would be more interested in an automated ball launcher.

Cats

Want to get that little motor going? Give Fluffy a new toy, and spend some time playing with her. You can opt for something classic, like a catnip mouse, or go all-out and get her a robotic ‘fish,’ or a remote-controlled toy. A small pot of catnip or cat grass is also a purrfect option. Kitties are also very fond of furniture. You can buy your furball a cat tower, pet tent, or window seat. Or, go the DIY route and make her something. Look online for ideas and instructions.

Rabbits

Floppy also loves being pampered! New chew toys would make great gifts for your little buddy. You can also make your furry little friend a ‘hopstacle’ course, by setting out totes, footstools, and ottomans for her to jump onto. Treats, of course, are always a safe bet. Just be sure to stick with safe options. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Pocket Pets

Little pets need love too! Chew toys are also good options for fancy rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, and Guinea pigs. These tiny furballs may also enjoy an exercise wheel, or perhaps a runabout. If you really want to pamper your pint-sized pal, get them a new hide or even a new cage.
