Tips For Boarding Your Cat

February 1, 2020

Are you going to be traveling soon? If so, you may want to consider boarding your cat. Kitties can do fine by themselves for short periods, but they often get quite stressed and lonely when left by themselves too long. Boarding is also safer for Fluffy. We all know that our feline pals have a habit of getting into mischief! A local San Antonio, TX vet offers tips on boarding cats below.

Packing

When packing for your feline friend, bring plenty of her usual food. Changing Fluffy’s diet quickly can upset her tummy, which is definitely something best avoided if possible.

Bedding

Find out in advance if you can bring Fluffy’s bedding and toys. Kennels all vary slightly on their policies here. Some allow you to pack beds and blankets, while others prefer to use their own supplies. That said, having something that smells like home can comfort your furball as she settles in to her kitty hotel.

Medication

If your furry friend takes medication, you’ll also need to pack a bit extra of that. Give instructions clearly, and make sure everything is labeled correctly. Also, if your kitty has any medical problems, you’ll need to let the kennel know about it. We also recommend giving the kennel your vet’s contact number, as well as your own.

Records

Any decent kennel will require proof that Fluffy has been vaccinated. Many kennels also require that kitties over 6 months be spayed or neutered. You’ll also need to make sure your pet is current on her parasite control products.

Contact Information

Make sure that the kennel has the correct contact information for you. You may also want to provide a backup number, just in case you can’t be reached.

Ask Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! You’ll of course want to make sure that you are clear on the cost. You may also want to clarify whether the kennel will contact you with minor questions, or only in emergencies. Also, make sure you know when you can drop Fluffy off and when you can pick her up.

Enjoy Your Trip

When you board, you will be able to rest easy, knowing that your kitty is safe and sound, and being well-taken care of. Relax and have fun!
