7 Simple Ways To Keep An Indoor Cat Happy

July 15, 2019

Do you keep your cat indoors? If so, that’s great. Although Fluffy really enjoys fun outdoor activities, like rolling around in the dirt and bringing her humans ‘presents’, she’s much safer staying in. Indoor cats don’t get as much activity or stimulation as outdoor kitties, though, so you’ll need to take some steps to keep your pet happy and purring. Read on as a local San Antonio, TX vet offers advice on keeping an indoor furball content.

Toys

Make sure your cat has lots of fun toys to play with. Kitties all have their own unique tastes when it comes to playthings. Offer Fluffy a variety, and pay attention to her purrsonal preferences. Change the toys out regularly to keep things fun for her.

Plants

Setting out pet safe plants will not only make your place look nice, it will also help keep it smelling good. Plus, Fluffy will be able to indulge her inner lioness by peeking out at you from behind green leaves. Check the ASPCA site for a full list of non-toxic plants.

Catio!

If you have a screened porch or patio, or even a spare room or sunroom, make it into a catio for Fluffy. Put your kitty’s pet furniture there, along with some toys and plants. Make sure she has a comfy window seat with a good view. This may also turn out to be a great spot for reading or having coffee!

Playtime

Take time to play with your cat every day. This is good for Fluffy, both mentally and physically. It’s also a great way to bond with your feline buddy, and just spend some quality time with her.

Kitty Comforts

Small touches will help keep your furry friend content. If you have to leave your kitty home alone, keep a radio or TV on for her. Also, if you’ll be gone until after dark, leave a light on for Fluffy.

Purrniture

Kitties are pretty good at making themselves comfortable. However, they do appreciate having some things of their own. Cat towers, pet tents, and comfy beds will all help keep that motor going.

Love

Fluffy will be happiest if she feels loved. Spend time with your kitty every day, and pay lots of attention to her!
