4 Great Reasons to Be Thankful For Cats

November 15, 2017

Cats have been our friends and companions for thousands of years, and have definitely earned their spots in our hearts and homes. Although we originally valued kitties for their hunting prowess, nowadays many of our feline pals have it pretty easy. Your pampered pet may not have to do much other than lounge around and look cute. However, even though Fluffy may not be dropping mice at your doorstep, she is still earning her keep. With Thanksgiving approaching, this seems like a good time to point out some of the ways cats help us. Here, a Castle Hills, TX vet lists some reasons to be thankful for kitties.

They Soothe Us

Have you ever come home after a bad day and just wanted to curl up with your cat? Fluffy’s calming purr can be a wonderful source of comfort in hard times. In fact, cuddling with a cat can help soothe anxiety and battle depression, and just generally lift our spirits.

They Help Heal Us

Did you know that cats purr at a frequency that promotes healing? Fluffy’s little engine runs at around 20 to 140 Hertz. Sound waves at this level have been shown to relieve pain, increase bone density, and heal tendons and muscles. Our feline buddies may just be a little bit magic!

They Make Us Laugh

Kitties’ silly antics certainly have a special way of keeping us smiling. It’s hard not to giggle when watching a frisky feline attack a fuzzy mouse toy or pounce on a red dot. And, as you probably noticed, giving a playful furball catnip can be almost as fun for you as it is for Fluffy! Cats actually seem to be the most hilarious when they’re being serious, which only makes them more amusing.

They Love Unconditionally

While we may joke about how cats are cold, calculating, and controlling, in truth our feline friends are very affectionate and loving. There’s no mistaking your pet’s snuggles and purrs for anything other than kitty love. Fluffy doesn’t care about what you’re wearing, who you’re dating, or where you work. She just wants to be fed, cuddled, and played with, and will absolutely adore you for taking care of her.

Happy Thanksgiving! If you have questions about cat care, please feel free to contact us, your Castle Hills, TX pet hospital, anytime! We’re here to help!
