Common Myths About Cats

July 1, 2017

Have you ever heard that cats always land on their feet (or paws)? This is a fairly common misconception about our feline pals. Although Fluffy is good at adjusting her position during jumps, kitties do not actually always land on their feet. In fact, a lot of the rumors you may have heard about cats are simply not true! Read on as a local San Antonio, TX vet discusses some of the most common myths about cats.

They Love Milk

This is another widespread misconception about our feline pals. It doesn’t help that there are so many classic images and reference about Fluffy’s love of milk. However, the truth is that many of our furry buddies are actually lactose-intolerant, and cannot properly digest milk. Give your furball some cat milk, which is specially formulated for cats, instead.

They Steal Babies’ Breath

This old wives’ tale has certainly damaged Fluffy’s reputation, and has caused quite a bit of fear and distrust of kitties. To set the record straight: cats definitely do not steal babies’ breath. So why do so many people make their newborns’ cribs kitty-proof? It’s actually because so many of our feline friends love to snuggle. Infants aren’t strong enough to push an over-affectionate adult cat off them. Therefore, to play it safe, people are often advised to cat-proof their crib.

They Are Aloof

You may have heard that cats are aloof, uncaring little furballs. In truth, many of our feline pals are quite the cuddlebugs! Fluffy may want nothing more than to snuggle up with her favorite humans.

They Have Nine Lives

This is one of the most widespread rumors about cats. It is, however, entirely untrue. Your cute pet only has one life, so be sure to fill it with purrs and snuggles!

Black Cats Are Unlucky

Unfortunately, this superstition is still widespread to this day. In fact, black cats have a harder time getting adopted than other kitties!

They Are Plotting World Domination

We have to be honest: this one might actually be true! Over one third of American households now has a feline overlord. We’ve also noticed that the internet seems to be filled with cat pictures. One thing we do know: Fluffy will admit nothing!
