Cavies For Adoption
Guinea pigs, often known as cavies, are very cute and fun little pets. These guys are quite popular as children’s pets, and with good reason: they are inexpensive, easy to care for, and are generally very gentle. Plus, they’re adorable! So why are there so many up for adoption? While every furball has a different story, financial hardship is often a factor. Sometimes people get pets for children, and then end up rehoming them when their youngsters lose interest. If you are considering getting a pocket pet, please think about adopting a rescued cavy. Just be sure to do plenty of research before adopting one: taking a pet into your home is a lifetime commitment.
Diet
Guinea pigs need lots of room to run and play. Get your cavy a roomy, comfy cage with a solid bottom. Your little buddy will need a hidey-hole; bedding; a water bottle; and food dishes. You can also add a litterbox and hayrack. Your pint-sized pal will also require lots of toys, including plenty of chew toys. Ask your vet for specific advice.
Cage
Just like any other pet, cavies must have proper nutrition to stay healthy. Your tiny friend can have pellets for breakfast and dinner. You’ll need to supplement these with fresh grass hay, such as Timothy hay; and fresh produce. Make sure your Guinea pig gets plenty of Vitamin C; this is very important! Ask your vet for nutritional recommendations.
Buddies
These little guys are quite friendly, and are often much happier with a buddy to play with. Just be sure to keep only same-sex pairs together. Otherwise, you may end up with more pets than you bargained for!
Temperament
Guinea pigs are small, but they have big personalities. They are very playful, and often really enjoy being cuddled and held. You may even be able to teach your cavy cute tricks!
